I have moved!
I haven't posted in awhile mainly because I've been in the process of moving, and so I've been very busy with that. I'm still not entirely moved in, but I have finally gotten to break in the kitchen! Last night I made my famous Oatmeal Chocolate-Chip cookies as a thank-you present for my mom's boss at work. She gave Austin and I a really nice and huge wooden table for our dining room.

Look! Here you can see my nifty pink Kitchen Aid stand mixer and my pink measuring cups and spoons. They're a nice little oasis of cute in the sea of ugly that is our kitchen right now. Soon I will paint it pink though, and all will be well! ^__^

This afternoon, I made a chocolate chip cookie cake, but I didn't take a picture of it since Austin and our house-mate [info]scary_mary ate up some of it before I thought about a photo. It was really delicious, and it was just the normal Nestle's TollHouse cookie recipe put into a 9"x13" glass pan! It was super easy too. I think I may be making this one again in the future.

Shabby Chick Steampunk?
Part of the reason I love steampunk so much is that it fits in with my already gradually formed sense of aesthetics. However, I get tired of seeing everything related to the genre being brown, bronze, black and silver. I feel like there is room for pretty colors in there, but it's just harder to pull off.

I was browsing Poupee Girl today and ran across [info]emiko's post with a wrist cuff she had made from scraps she got out of my clippings bin. She did this some time ago, but I was newly reminded that I had wanted to have a go at this fun little craft. It's been a rainy miserable day here, so I thought I'd just sit down and try it out.

On an related side note, I hate how my hands are so huge. T_T

All in all, I like how the cuff turned out, but in all truth, I'm not sure how much I'll actually wear it. It was fun to make though... so much more free-form and easy-going than my normal sewing work.

Wedding + Wedding + Wedding = Tired Kats
Hello there wide world! I haven't updated in awhile because I've been super busy going to other people's weddings. I've been running around like a chicken with it's head cut off lately. First was my Cousin's wedding in Philly in May, then my friend Courtney's wedding June 7th. It was in Virginia and I was the maid of honor so I had to go. Then the next weekend, on June 15th, was Austin's Cousin's wedding in Miami. In between those two I had to finish a dress and do a photoshoot for my ad in the September issue of the Gothic & Lolita Bible.

Now I'm home and back to work again on clothes for Megan Maude. Speaking of which, there is a four page article on me and my work in the June issue of the Gothic & Lolita Bible! It's in stores now, so you should all give it a look! Here's an Amazon link!

Unfortunately, I was at Courtney's wedding on International Lolita Day, but apparently the Atlanta meet-up on that day was terrible. Fortunately though, today [info]miscy hosted a Lolita Day Round 2 meet-up at her parents lovely house. I wasn't feeling terribly well for various reasons, but I did manage to make my hair look really keen! So for your viewing pleasure, my hair and some meet-up snaps.

I really need to remember to post more often when I'm busy! I have so much more to report about, but there's just soooo much. Ah well... I'll just try harder in the future. ^^

Let's Go Fly a Kite!
Today was Memorial Day in the United States, and it was also a lovely day here in Atlanta. [info]mastergode and I had recently procured a kite at a local hobby shop, so today seemed like the perfect day to try it out. He suggested that he dress up like one of the early aviators since the kite is shaped like an old tri-plane. I think it's supposed to look like the Red Baron's plane. I recently got a new hat I'd been meaning to try out so we both dressed up and headed out to Stone Mountain Park.

When we got to the park is was crazy crowded with people picnicking and such for the holiday, and so we went to the generally bad for picnicking Rock Quarry. It's kind of cool over there. They have a permanent exhibit from when the quarry was running and there are still cut up rocks laying about all over the place.

Here you can see the rock quarry and my new hat!

+ too many! )

We plan to go out again sometime soon with two kites and have a kite-plane battle! I hope there will be a nice windy day soon! ^^

I'm cross-posting this to [info]egl, but I'm omitting some pictures in that post. So if you're both on my friends list and on [info]egl, you need not read my post there since it's less complete than this one. ^__^

Accidentally Awesome Hair! w00t!
On Tuesday night I bought some foam curlers at Target. I wanted to to see if I could get my hair to do the awesome curly thing I made it do the night before Courtney's bridal shower but via a less time consuming method. I'm going to a wedding in Philadelphia on Saturday at 2pm and so I thought it would be nice if I could sleep on rollers, wake up, do my make-up, run a pick through my hair and run out the door.

Well, I had no such luck. I believe I used the wrong size curlers. I thought it would be best to use the smaller ones that were roughly the same size as the small curling iron I use when making ringlet curls. I was sadly mistaken. I slept on the curlers and when I went to take them on on Wednesday morning my hair looked like it belonged on an electrocuted poodle!! I had to keep my appointment at the gym, and so I started fiddling around with my hair trying desperately to make it do something that didn't look absolutely silly. As luck would have it, I came up with a semi-rococo hairstyle!

I went to the gym with my hair looking like some of the pictures under the cut, and when I got back I tried to make it better and I took some pictures. I'm pretty excited about this discovery because I think given a bit more experimentation and practice I could make it look stellar!

Hooray for happy accidents!

Doesn't this look cool? I think so. ^^

More pictures than you likely wanted to see... )

I WON!!! + Courtney's Bridal Shower
I swear the two topics in the subject line are related! XD
I entered the Non-Tradtional Print Skirt Contest over on [info]sew_loli, and I wore the skirt when I gave my friend Courtney's Bridal Shower last Saturday. I didn't want to post this pictures from the shower because I wanted to wait until after the vote for the contest was over. As it turned out, I won! I totally didn't expect to win since some of the other entries were so good. Normally I would vote for myself, but I actually voted for the Giraffe Galore Skirt since it was so over the top and awesome, and I was happy to see it place second since it didn't win. Going into the contest, I had no idea what the prize would be, and I didn't really care since I was in it for the fun. However, the prize turned out to be a $15.00 gift certificate to Sock Dreams! Bonus!

Here's my entry post over on [info]sew_loli. I also put pictures of the skirt under the cut in this entry.

My friend I've had the longest, Courtney, is getting married on June 7th, and so my mom and I threw her a Bridal Shower on May 3rd. I've known Courtney since 4th grade when I moved to Atlanta. We had the same teacher and became fast friends. It's crazy to think about having been friends with someone for 17 years. I never imagined back then that we would grow up and be each other's bridesmaids.

The shower was at my parents house since Austin and I can't move into our house just yet. We did it like a traditional Southern Tea. Southern Teas don't have to have actual tea. It's more of a term for the type of gathering you're having. We had white linen napkins, glass punch cups, and lady-food all set out on a nice table cloth and fine china. I think it turned out rather nicely. I may have to organize some lolita meet-ups like this when I move into my new house. ^__^

Impromptu Opera Outing
Tonight, [info]mastergode and I went out to the opera! It was a rather last minute decision since we had pretty much forgotten about the whole thing until this morning. We were mainly going to help a friend out with a school project, and so it wasn't really the first thing on our minds. So, this morning when we got home from the gym, we decided to go and we purchased tickets. Since it was totally last minute, the only seats available were total nose-bleed seats, but they ended out still being pretty good. I would say there is not a bad seat in the house at the Atlanta Opera.

The opera was Mozart's Marriage of Figaro. For all that I love Opera, I had never actually seen this classic, and I must say it was pretty amusing. I love how when you go to an opera these days they have a subtitle screen floating above the stage so you know what's being said. I was kind of sad that the subtitles weren't better though. There were a few really funny parts that I could only vaguely follow with my limited knowledge of Italian. After the show, [info]mastergode and I were jokingly remarking that we wished fan-subbers had done the job because it would have been better. XD

We got semi-dressed-up since we decided to make a date of the whole affair. Sadly though, I had to wear my glasses. I pretty much never wear my glasses when I'm getting dressed up nicely. It's not so much that I hate my glasses as much as I feel like they don't really go with my dressy ensembles. However, my last pair of contacts ripped the last day I was in New York, and I haven't had a chance to get new ones yet. So you get a special, or not-so-special, treat! Me dressed up wearing my glasses! [info]mastergode is looking pretty stylin' though!

Some pics of us plus the opera house... )

Now I'm off to answer the comments from my last post and head to bed! I have to say, it's been a nice day. ^__^

NYCC Adventure! -or- The Longest Picture Post Ever!
So I'm back from New York Comic Con! I've actually been back since Wednesday night, but I've been ill, so I haven't felt like posting. On Thursday I decompressed a little and jumped into working on getting the website ready to go live, but then I discovered that I had a terrible bladder infection. First one since early January though! Hooray! Hopefully I can manage not to get one again for awhile. I think it was just all of the stress of the weekend and pushing my body too hard. (For anyone new around here, I have to self-catheterize and so I get bladder infections more often than anyone should)

The convention was great! The weekend was a huge success, and I'm thrilled to report I made some new friends and got to spend time with old ones. The only down side to the weekend was feeling like a cripple. I'm used to being around people who know that I can't walk very fast and have to take things slow sometimes, but this weekend I was around a lot of new people and I felt like I had to keep up all the time. I didn't want to complain too much, and so I tried to just keep up as best I could. However, I kept getting worn out, and a couple of times I actually managed to get all wobbly and tripped up while simply standing. I hope I didn't freak anyone out. T_T I really try to not let people know I have issues walking. It doesn't really appear that I have anything wrong with me, and so I don't want people to think I'm whining about nothing. Sadly though, when I'm around people all weekend there's just no way to avoid it. It makes me feel lame.... pun intended. ^_^;

Austin and I flew in to New York City on Thursday night and met up with [info]bejipan who stayed with us for the rest of our trip. She was escorted by [info]amanikitty, and so we all went and got some food at the world famous Lindy's Restaurant. The sandwich Austin and I shared was HUGE and wonderful, but the service was kind of meh. After that we were really tired so we just went back to the hotel and proceeded to be lazy people.

Friday through Sunday was spent running around doing all kinds of things at the con. So now, on to what you really came here for, the pictures!

+80! Dial-Up be warned! )

So that's the end! Did anyone actually look at all of those pictures? ^^;;;;;;

There were more people I wanted to see and more things I wanted to do, but I guess they'll have to wait until next time. The one thing I'm really bummed about is missing [info]lilusako! I specifically looked for her all weekend and never saw her! I was really looking forward to meeting her in real life too. T_T Oh well, all the more reason to try and make it out to LA sometime soon. ^__^

Sexy + Oreos + Peek
On April 5th, [info]mastergode and I attended the wedding of one of his ex-girlfriend and one of his college buddies. It was in Orlando, so we drove down on the 4th and spent the night at the hotel where the wedding was happening.

I wanted to get a new dress to wear to the wedding since I didn't know either the bride or groom, and my typical formal attire is usually a bit more flamboyant than some people might find appropriate for a wedding. So, I bought this semi-sexy little black dress. I then remembered why I haven't bought or worn a dress like that in quite some time. I can't find any shoes to match!

I've gotten a lot better since my surgery over a year and a half ago, but I still have some issues, one of them not being able to feel all of my right foot. Because of that I can't wear really high heels or really spiky heels of any height. I have issues with even keeping the wrong kind of shoe on my right foot, so anything without a heel-back is usually right out along with anything too strappy. Unfortunately, with dressy shoes, there are tall strappy spiky pairs and ugly boxy grandma pairs and very little else. Then add in that I wear a size 11, and suddenly trying to find a pair of black dress shoes I can actually walk in becomes an near impossible task. I think I may have looked at literally 5000 pairs of shoes online and in stores, and I didn't come up with anything until I finally lucked out at Shoe Carnival! However, shoes were found so I could wear this sort of sexy dress that I will not share terrible pictures of! ^__^

Anyway, a good time was had by all. Well, that's a lie, but it sounds good, and I had a good time. It was nice to sit back and watch someone else have drama for once. ^^;;;; [info]mastergode's "crazy" ex-girlfriend was actually quite nice, so that was a relief. She also had amazing hair! If you're actually interested in seeing more of the wedding itself, you can head on over to this post.

On to other things because I'm far too lazy to make multiple posts!

Today, at the store, I was looking at crackers and spied something new in among the varieties of Oreos. Low and behold it was Strawberry Milkshake Oreos! I'm a real sucker for strawberry flavored things, and I do love Oreos now and again. I couldn't resist! I bought a package, and I ate a cookie just as soon as I got home. I was honestly expecting them to be kind of horrible, but, to my pleasant surprise, I really like them! Now I have to just not get fat on them. XD

I've been eating some of those yummy Strawberry Milkshake Oreos tonight as I've been working on stuff for New York Comic Con. Since a couple of people requested a sneak peak, under the cut is a tiny little peek at 2 of the 5 outfits for the Tokyopop fashion show! ^^

Now for some sleep!

Good grief I'm getting old!
[info]egl and [info]egl_comm_sales now have moderated membership to cut down on the number of trolls we get posting lately. So, I just went to look at someone's journal to see if they should be approved or denied and saw that they were born in 1994. I was thinking "Jeez, how old is that? 9 or 10?", and then I realized it was 2008 and that makes the kid 14. People born when I was in middle school are in middle school now. @_@
